  1. QUICKDEX FOR WINDOWS
  2.  
  3. Quickdex is a replacement for the Cardfile program that comes with 
  4. Windows. Unlike Cardfile, Quickdex allows you to search forward and 
  5. backward, allows a regular expression search, and allows (essentially) 
  6. unlimited file and card sizes. If you know Quickdex on the Mac, this is 
  7. an improved version.

  17. This version of Quickdex is capable of 'drag & drop' editing, but 
  18. requires a 'key' to enable that functionality. Anyone can receive the key 
  19. simply by registering their copy. The application is fully functional 
  20. without drag & drop, but it's a treat for those who register.

  41. CHANGES FROM VERSION 1.10A TO 1.11A
  42.  
  43. Version 1.11a adds two new capabilities to Quickdex. The first is the 
  44. ability to write out files in Cardfile format. The second is the ability 
  45. to save unique preferences with each Quickdex data file.
  46.  
  47. Although Quickdex will write out files in Cardfile format, it will not 
  48. check that the file is readable by Cardfile. For example, Cardfile can 
  49. display a maximum of 400 characters in a card. If there is more data in 
  50. a Quickdex card, it will *not* be truncated when written. Cardfile also 
  51. has a limit of about 1200 cards in a data file. If you save a Quickdex 
  52. file with 10,000 cards it will cheerfully write out a perfectly valid 
  53. Cardfile data file -- only Cardfile can't read it.

  55. Version 1.11 also make a minor change to the Quickdex data file format. 
  56. The first card (hidden when loaded) contains user preference information 
  57. about the data file, including font name and style, display of menus or 
  58. buttons, and the window location and size when the data *was last 
  59. saved*. Although I believe this feature is very handy -- particularly 
  60. when running more than one instance of Quickdex-- it can be a bit 
  61. disconcerting when switching between data files, causing the application 
  62. to jump from one place to the other on your screen. It is also a change 
  63. from earlier versions which saved the window position when the 
  64. application ended. Also, it is possible for Quickdex to restore the 
  65. window position incorrectly -- somewhere "off the screen" giving the 
  66. appearance that Quickdex is invisible. (This can be fixed by choosing [Tile] 
  67. in the Task Manager).
